Text: Colossians 4: 10-11
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, with Mark the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions: if he comes to you, welcome him), and Jesus who is called Justus. These are my only fellow workers for the kingdom of God who are of the circumcision; they have proved to be a comfort to me.”
Colossians 4:10-11
A LIST OF CLOSE FRIENDS OF THE APOSTLE PAUL II
1. Aristarchus
a. He was honoured as a “fellow-prisoner”.
b. He too suffered for his faith in the Lord.
c. He was imprisoned with Paul (This is not noted in the Book of Acts).
2. Mark, the cousin of Barnabas.
a. Paul once refused to have Mark work with him.
b. He had followed Barnabas and Paul but had returned to Jerusalem during their ministry.
i. This was unacceptable to Paul.
ii. There came a severe rift between Paul and Barnabas.
c. That rift had mended somehow.
d. Paul now wrote to say that he was to be welcomed.
3. Justus
a. His other name was “Jesus”.
b. Paul also commended him as a fellow-worker.
THE MINISTRY TO THE JEWS
1. Paul’s main ministry was with the Gentiles.
2. But he also had a ministry with the Jews (Called “of the circumcision”).
3. He sought to proclaim the kingdom of God to them.
4. These were the only fellow-workers Paul had.
a. Aristarchus
b. Mark
c. Justus
5. His commendation of this team of workers.
a. They were a comfort to his heart.
b. Paul’s heart was most gracious and appreciative.
