My Song In The Night (Vital Doctrines)
我夜间的歌曲《重要教义-救恩》
Text: Galatians 4: 21-22
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.”
Galatians 4:21-22
UNDER THE LAW
1. This was a major focus of the False Teachers.
a. They teach that God gave “the law”.
b. And that God commands all to be “under the law”.
c. Blessings come only when one submits entirely to “the law”.
2. Paul knew the False Teachers had deceived the Galatians.
a. They taught “half-truths”.
b. They did not teach “the law” in its entirety.
i. They emphasised what they wished.
ii. They did not teach the whole counsel of the law.
3. The Galatians
a. They lacked full knowledge.
b. They also lacked discernment.
c. They certainly lacked skill in correctly interpreting the Scriptures.
d. Thus, they did not realise fully that they had been manipulated by the False Teachers.
e. Yet, they had “desired” to be under the law!
4. What Paul sought to do.
a. He sought to instruct the Galatians further.
b. The Galatians need to know “the full story”.
5. Abraham, the first patriarch of Israel.
a. “It is written”
i. Paul was making a reference to the Scriptures.
ii. The story of Abraham is found in Genesis 12-25.
b. “Abraham had two sons”
i. Ishmael by Hagar.
ii. Isaac by Sarah.
c. Hagar was a bondwoman.
i. She was a slave.
ii. She came from Egypt.
d. Sarah was a freewoman.
i. She was never a slave.
ii. She was a freewoman from birth.
6. These details were highlighted.
a. Paul sought to explain the significance between the two women.
b. The Apostle was seeking to help the Galatians to have a deeper understanding of the Scriptures.
c. A deeper understanding would protect them from falsehood.
