Text: Galatians 5: 16-18

MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION

“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”

Galatians 5:16-18

THE SPIRIT AND THE FLESH

1. The Spirit

a. This is a reference to the Holy Spirit.

b. His role in the life of the believer:

i. He brings about regeneration.

ii. He causes the believer to be “born again”.

iii. He indwells the believer.

iv. His role is that of a Teacher and a Guide.

2. The Christian walk

a. This is a reference to how the believer orders his life.

b. The new life generated by the Spirit may be called “the Christian walk”.

c. The symbol of the word “walk”.

i. One walks towards a destination.

ii. Walking is an important exercise that promotes health.

iii. The Christian Walk is with the Lord Jesus as the Divine Companion.

iv. The Spirit of God teaches the believer how to walk with the Lord.

v. The Spirit will help us not to fulfil the lust of the flesh.

3. The flesh

a. This is a reference to the carnal (fleshly) lifestyle.

b. Carnality is the opposite of Spirituality.

4. The word “lust” in this context

a. This word means “desire”.

b. It can be used negatively or positively.

c. It has to be understood carefully.

5. The flesh and the Spirit

a. The human being has two main elements: i. There is the body. ii. There is also the spirit.

b. The factor of Sin.

i. Sin has a strong corrupting influence.

ii. It corrupts the whole human nature.

c. The sinful nature of man will always lust against the Spirit.

i. The word “lust” does not mean desire.

ii. The phrase, “lusts against the Spirit,” does not mean the flesh desires the Spirit.

iii. Quite the opposite! The flesh will battle strongly against the Spirit.

iv. Vice versa, the Spirit will battle the flesh.

v. They are diametrically opposite!

6. The believer may not be able to do what he wishes.

a. If he desires to walk in the Spirit, he will find it difficult.

b. The flesh will resist the work of the Spirit of God.

c. This is a life-long problem!

7. An important reminder.

a. All who are true believers.

i. They are born again.

ii. They are born of the Spirit.

iii. They belong to the Kingdom of heaven.

iv. They are led by the Spirit of God.

b. They are not under the Law.

i. The Law cannot have a hold of them.

ii. There need not be a slavish adherence to the Law!

灵和肉体

1.灵

a. 这指的是圣灵

b. 祂在信徒生命里的角色：

i.=祂带来再生

ii.祂使信徒“重生”

iii.祂住在信徒里

iv.祂的角色是师傅和元帅

2.基督徒之行

a. 这指的是信徒如何安排自己的生活

b. 圣灵给予的新的生命也称为“基督徒之行”

c. “行”的象征

i. 一个人往终点行走

ii. 行走是促进健康的重要运动

iii.基督徒之行是同主耶稣为神圣的同伴而行

iv. 上帝的圣灵教导信徒如何与主行走

v. 圣灵会帮助我们不放纵肉体的情欲

3.肉体

a. 这指的是属乎肉体的生活形式

b. 属乎肉体和圣洁是相反的

4.这经文中“情欲”的含义

a. 这词指的是“欲望”

b. 它可以被正面或负面地使用

c. 它得要仔细地被理解

5.肉体和圣灵

a. 人主要有两个方面：

i. 有身体

ii. 也有灵

b. 罪的因素

i. 罪有很强的腐败影响

ii. 它腐败整个人性

c. 人的罪恶本性会一直与圣灵相悖

i. “情欲”指的不是欲望

ii. “情欲与圣灵相争”指的不是肉体对圣灵有着欲望

iii. 恰恰相反！肉体会很强力地和圣灵相悖

iv. 反之亦然，圣灵也会和肉体争战

v. 它们是截然相反的！

6.信徒或许无法做所愿意做的

a. 如果他想在圣灵里行走，他会觉得很艰难

b. 肉体会抵抗圣灵的工作

c. 这是一个永久性的问题！

7.一个重要的提醒

a. 凡是真正的信徒

i. 他们会重生

ii. 他们是从圣灵生的

iii. 他们是属天国的

iv. 他们由圣灵引领

b. 他们不在律法以下

i. 律法不能控制他们

ii. 他们不需盲目遵守律法！
