Text: Galatians 5: 24-26
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
1. Paul offered a significant contrast to “the works of the flesh”.
2. He called it, “the fruit of the Spirit”.
3. Why was it called “fruit?”
a. Though there may be different features highlighted, they are essentially the same fruit.
b. For example we may speak of a cluster of grapes.
c. The fruit of the Holy Spirit may be described as a cluster indeed.
4. It is essentially the work of the Holy Spirit.
a. The fruit is the result of all the work He put in.
b. It takes a lot of work to produce this kind of fruit.
5. Each fruit:
a. It has individual characteristics.
b. It has its own values.
c. It has its own significance.
6. Is there an order concerning this fruit of the Spirit?
a. The focus here is to offer a contrast to the works of the flesh.
b. There is no particular order.
c. Each individual fruit offers and adds to the splendour of the others.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TEACHING ABOUT THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT?
1. To teach us that the Holy Spirit is not dormant in the life of the believer.
2. The Holy Spirit may be likened to a person who plants.
3. He works hard to ensure a good harvest.
4. The mention of the fruit of the Spirit.
a. It is instructive.
b. It is inspirational.
c. It is impactful.
AGAINST SUCH THERE IS NO LAW
1. No law can bind this cluster of fruit of the Holy Spirit.
2. The work of the Holy Spirit transcends any attempt to rein in the fruit of the Spirit.
3. A believer who yields to the work of the Holy Spirit can look forward to seeing His fruit appearing significantly.
