Take Time To Read “The Text”
Text: 2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.2 Timothy 3:16-17
TAKE TIME TO READ “THE TEXT”
It is important to cultivate a good Bible reading habit. Sometimes, we are not even conscious that we may have a poor Bible reading habit.
GOD’S GIFT OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
The Scriptures were written over hundreds of years. Godly servants of God were inspired to write the Scriptures. The Spirit of God guided them carefully so that they could write unerringly.
READING THE BIBLE MEANINGFULLY
God has done His part in giving us His Holy Word. We have a part to play. We must learn how to read the Scriptures accurately.
1. We will understand the Bible better and more meaningfully if we read:
a. Carefully
b. Prayerfully
c. Humbly
d. Meditatively
2. We will benefit from Bible reading if we remember that the Scriptures were written to:
a. Teach us doctrine.
b. Reprove us when we are wrong.
c. Correct us when we go astray.
d. Instruct us so that we may live righteously.
3. We will appreciate the Bible more if we understand God’s goals:
a. He wants us to become more mature (the meaning of the word “complete”).
b. He wants us to be better equipped for the good works that we can do in life.
LEARNING HOW TO MAKE AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO THE WORD OF GOD
Here are some responses we may consider:
1. Making confession when we recognise sin in our life.
2. Seeking pardon and cleansing from God.
3. Praying to God for His grace and mercy to be bestowed.
4. Determining to walk more closely with God.
