The Glory of God

Text: John 11: 40

THE GLORY OF GOD

Jesus had already told His disciples about the glory of God that would be revealed (John 11:4). He did not elaborate on what He said or meant. The disciples did not ask nor did they have a clue as to what Jesus would do.

“Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?’”

John 11:40

1. “Jesus said to her”

a. This word must be understood in the light of what Jesus must have taught earlier.

b. The immediate context in John 11 is limited.

2. “Did I not say to you that if you would believe”

a. Jesus had always sought to teach people to find faith in God.

b. He sought to teach the following:

i. The multitudes.

ii. His disciples.

iii. Clearly, Jesus had taught Martha and Mary to believe too.

c. “If you would believe”

i. The usual problem is unbelief.

ii A related difficulty is the arising of doubts.

iii. Yet another added problem is the inability to apply faith amidst tough circumstances.

3. “If you would believe you would see the glory of God”

a. The glory of God is to found everywhere:

i. In creation

ii. In the Word of God

iii. In the life of Jesus

iv. In the mighty miracles He performed again and again

b. “See the glory of God”

i. Eyes of faith are needed.

ii. Eyes need to be enlightened.

iii. Faith in God needs to be exercised.

iv. The lack of deep faith in Martha was noted and addressed!

上帝的荣耀

耶稣已经向门徒诉说关于上帝的荣耀将被显露的事《约翰福音11：4》。祂并没有详细解释祂说这话的意思。门徒既没有问，也好无头绪耶稣即将怎么做。

“耶稣说：‘我不是对你说过，你若信，就必看见神的荣耀吗？’”

1. “耶稣说”

a. 这话必须和耶稣之前所教训的一起解读

b. 单凭《约翰福音 11》来了解这话是有限的

2. “我不是对你说过，你若信”

a. 耶稣一向都试图教导人们在上帝里找到信心

b. 祂试图教训以下的人：

i. 众人

ii. 祂的门徒

iii. 耶稣显然也有教导马打和马利亚相信

c. “你若信”

i. 不信是通常出现的问题

ii. 与不信相关的另一个问题就是起疑念

iii. 另一个问题就是人无法在艰难的处境中实践信心

3. “你若信，就必看见神的荣耀”

a. 上帝的荣耀到处可见：

i. 在上帝的创造中

ii. 在上帝的话语中

iii. 在耶稣的生命中

iv. 在祂屡次施行的伟大神迹中

b. “看见神的荣耀”

i. 需要透过富信心的眼睛

ii. 需要眼目光明

iii. 需要运行对上帝的信心

iv. 马打缺乏深沉信心的问题被提及并处理！
