Coming to Faith in Jesus
Text: John 11: 45-46
COMING TO FAITH IN JESUS
What would be the most natural response when one has witnessed a truly spectacular miracle?
“Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. But some of them went away to the Pharisees
and told them the things Jesus did.”John 11:45-46
1. “Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary”
a. These were the friends of the family of Mary, Martha and Lazarus.
b. They had come to Mary to offer sympathy and condolences.
2. “And had seen the things Jesus did”
a. These had seen other miracles that Jesus did.
b. He had restored the eyes of a man born blind (John 9).
c. Now He had raised Lazarus from the dead.
3. “Believed in Him”
a. This would be the most logical response.
b. To believe in Jesus would be most natural.
4. What would they believe in
a. That Jesus was the Christ.
b. That He was the Son of God.
c. That He was the Saviour.
d. That He was the Resurrection and the Life.
e. That God the Father had indeed sent Him.
f. That God would always hear the prayers of His beloved Son.
g. That God had granted Him power to even raise the dead.
5. “But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things Jesus did”
a. These had not been convinced.
b. They had not found faith,
c. They went to the Pharisees.
i. To give a report.
ii. To watch how the Pharisees would respond and they would take heed to their response.
