A Sad Fulfilment of Scripture
Text: John 12: 37-38
A SAD FULFILMENT OF SCRIPTURE
The fulfilment of Scripture can be a very enlightening and happy experience. But in some circumstances, the fulfilment of the LORD’s word can be very sad.
“But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: ‘Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?’”
John 12:37-38
1. “But though He had done many signs before them”
a. All the Gospels recorded the miracles Jesus performed:
i. The lame walked.
ii. The blind see.
iii. The deaf hear.
iv. The lepers were healed.
v. The dead were raised.
vi. Demons were cast out,
b. These were indeed “signs”
i. To indicate that Jesus was no ordinary Man.
ii. He was the Christ, the Messiah sent by God.
2. “They did not believe in Him”
a. Because they chose to remain in sin and darkness.
b. Because they were proud and rebellious.
c. Because they had allowed their hearts to become hard in their unbelief.
3. “That the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled”
a. This was the sad part.
b. Scripture would be fulfilled.
i. Where there is faith
ii. Or where people reject belief in Jesus.
4. “The arm of the LORD been revealed”
a. In the life of Jesus.
b. In the miracles that He had performed! Believing in Jesus should be the natural response.
