Important Truths
Text: John 15: 1-2
IMPORTANT TRUTHS
When Jesus actually left the home of Lazarus we are not told specifically. But while He was there, He continued to teach them important truths.
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”
John 15:1-2
1. Jesus had already made some very important statements with the word “I am”
a. I am the Bread of life (John 6:35)
b. I am the Light of the world (John 8:12; John 9:4)
c. I am the Door of the sheep (John 10:7)
d. I am the Good Shepherd (John 10:11)
e. I am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25)
f. I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6)
2. He adds another vital “I am” statement
a. I am the True Vine (John 15:1)
b. This was the last of the seven “I am” statements.
3. “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser”
a. Once again, Jesus spoke of how His Father was involved.
b. Jesus was indeed the true vine.
c. His Disciples were branches attached to the true vine.
The Father’s role was that of a vinedresser.
4. “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away”
a. This was a word of truth in the general sense of the word.
b. This was a solemn truth in a very specific sense too.
c. This truth applied to Judas Iscariot directly.
d. He was a branch that did not bear fruit at all!
He would be taken away very soon.
5. “And every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit”
a. The other Disciples had borne some fruit.
b. The Father would prune them so that they would be able to bear even more fruit.
