Three Essentials Of Work
Text: John 16: 8 - 11
THREE ESSENTIAL AREAS OF WORK
Jesus went on to explain the work of the Holy Spirit when He comes.
“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, And of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they do not believe in Me; Of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
John 16:8-11
1. “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment”
a. Three areas of the work of the Holy Spirit in the world were highlighted:
i. Convicting the world of sin.
ii. Convicting the world concerning righteousness.
iii. Convicting the world of judgment.
b. These three areas do not limit the work of the Holy Spirit.
c. There are other areas of work that would be revealed at a later stage.
2. “Of sin, because they do not believe in Me”
a. Jesus was sent by God
i. As the Son of God.
ii. As the Saviour of the world.
iii. As the Master and Teacher.
b. To reject Him in unbelief is sin indeed.
3. “Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and you see Me no more”
a. The Son of God was altogether righteous.
b. His returning to His Father after completing God’s Divine plan of salvation confirms His righteousness.
c. The Disciples would see Him no more, but they would have been impacted deeply by how He lived so righteously.
4. “Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged”
a. This is a profound truth.
b. The ruler of this world is judged indeed when Jesus has triumphed over sin and death.
c. The Spirit of God would bear witness of the judgment of Satan, that he is defeated by Jesus.
