Not Ready For Other Deep Truths
Text: John 16: 12 - 13
NOT READY FOR OTHER DEEP TRUTHS
Jesus knew the level of spiritual maturity of His Disciples. He was always very frank with them.
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come; He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority; but whatever He hears He will speak; And He will tell you things to come.”
John 16:12-13
1. “I still have many things to say to you”
a. Truth is inexhaustible.
b. There will always be many truths that need to be taught and learned.
2. “But you cannot bear them now”
a. The Disciples were coping with deep sorrow at the imminent death of Jesus.
b. They had not fully understood what Jesus had taught about the Spirit of God.
c. They had not learned how to love each other.
d. They were not spiritually very strong and mature to grapple with other truths.
3. “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth”
a. Once again, Jesus reminded the Disciples of the Spirit of truth.
b. He will guide the Disciples into all truth.
c. Truth must remain the main focus.
4. “For He will not speak of His own authority”
a. This was a vital truth for the Disciples to learn well.
b. Even the Holy Spirit will not speak of His own authority.
c. The danger is when we speak on our own authority.
5. “But whatever He hears, He will speak”
a. This was exactly the way Jesus ministered.
b. He never spoke from His own authority.
c. The Spirit of God will do the same thing.
6. “And He will tell you of things to come”
a. This would only be according to what God would reveal.
b. This was a vital lesson that must be well and truly learned.
