A Brighter Future
Text: John 16: 26 - 27
A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Jesus looked forward to a brighter future for His Disciples. They were obviously struggling still. They were not very prayerful. They were filled with sorrow. They did not fully understand Jesus. But the future would be lots stronger.
“In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.”
John 16:26-27
1. “In that day you will ask in My name”
a. Jesus looked forward to the time when the Disciples would be more prayerful.
b. They would have grown in their faith and knowledge of how to pray in Jesus’ name.
c. Their prayer life would have become more significant.
2. “And I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you”
a. Jesus would no longer pray for them with a great sense of concern for their immaturity.
b. When the Disciples have become more spiritually mature, they would be able to pray meaningfully on their own.
3. “For the Father Himself loves you”
a. The Father’s love
i. There is an intrinsic love that He has for everyone.
ii. There is a special love too.
iii. This reference is to a special sense of love for the Disciples.
b. Jesus delighted in this truth that would take place one day.
4. “Because you have loved Me”
a. This was the reason why God would especially love the Disciples.
b. Because the Disciples had truly learned to love Jesus.
5. “And have believed that I came forth from God”
a. This was a very basic truth.
b. The Disciples had understood that Jesus was not an ordinary Human.
c. He had indeed come from God.
d. The Father had sent Him to be the Messiah.
e. Jesus was truly and fully Son of God and Son of Man.
