Praying For Others Who Would Believe Later

Text: John 17: 20 - 21

PRAYING FOR OTHERS WHO WOULD BELIEVE LATER

The heart of love that Jesus has is truly amazing. He prayed for His Disciples because he loved them. He also prayed for people who would become believers because of the word of salvation preached.

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” 

John 17:20-21

1. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word”

a. Jesus prayed for His Disciples.
b. His prayer was far-reaching.
i. He prayed for future believers.
ii. For those who would come to faith through the preaching of the word of God.
iii. The heart of love that Jesus had was truly huge!

2. “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You”

a. The prayer for oneness is:
i. Deep
ii. Insightful
b. The context for this prayer to be made:
i. Oneness is easily lost.
ii. It is not easily obtained.
iii. It is very hard to sustain oneness.
c. The model of Oneness
i. What Jesus and the Father had.
ii. This was unique oneness.

3. “That they also may be one in Us”

a. This is not an impossible prayer.
b. Oneness begins when one is truly humble enough to submit to the Father’s will.

4. “That the world may believe that You sent Me”

a. The message of Jesus as the One sent by God must be preached and believed in.
b. The world cannot be easily reached. Oneness among believers would be a good start!

1.“我不但为这些人祈求，也为那些因他们的话信我的人祈求”

a. 耶稣为门徒祈求
b. 祂的祷告意义深远
i. 祂为未来的信徒祷告
ii. 祂为那些因为通过传道而来信祂的人祷告
iii. 耶稣的爱是何等伟大！

2.“使他们都合而为一；正如你父在我里面，我在你里面”

a. 这合而为一的祈求：
i. 非常深切
ii. 富有深刻的见解
b. 为何如此祷告：
i. 合而为一的心很容易失去
ii. 合而为一的心不容易达到
iii. 合而为一的心很难维持
c. 合而为一的模范
i. 这是耶稣和父之间所拥有的
ii． 耶稣和父合而为一是独一无二的

3.“使他们也在我们里面”

a. 这不是不可能的祷告
b. 合而为一的开始需要真正谦卑地顺服天父的旨意

4.“叫世人可以信你差了我来”

a. 耶稣是上帝差来的信息必须被传扬并相信
b. 叫世人相信耶稣不是件容易的事。信徒之间能合而为一是好的开始！
