The Name Of God
Text: John 17: 25
THE NAME OF GOD
The love that the Father had for Jesus was deep and profound. Jesus concluded His prayer dwelling on God’s love.
“O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.”
John 17:25
1. “O righteous Father”
a. Jesus would sometimes simply mention God even as He prayed.
b. He mentioned His name in three precious and tender ways:
i. Father John 17:1, 24
ii. Holy Father John 17:11
iii. Righteous Father John 17:25
c. The sheer mention of His Father’s name brought the following:
i. Closeness
ii. Tenderness
iii. Assurance
iv. Peace
v. Joy
2. “The world has not known You”
a. This was spoken with a tinge of sadness.
b. Jesus had faithfully proclaimed the name of God.
c. But there was no understanding or appreciation of God.
d. Thus, the world remained ignorant of God.
3. “But I have known You”
a. This is not mere intellectual knowledge.
b. This is a deep and personal knowledge of God
c. It was carefully sustained and this knowledge of God was always deep and precious.
4. “And these have known that You have sent Me”
a. The Disciples did not know God as well as Jesus did.
b. But they had a good start.
c. At least, they had come to know and believe that God had truly sent Jesus into the world.
