My Song In The Night (Gospel of John)
The Explanation of John Concerning Jesus and His success in Ministry
Text: John 3:34
“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.”
John 3:34
THE EXPLANATION OF JOHN CONCERNING JESUS AND HIS SUCCESS IN MINISTRY
1. John was speaking to his disciples who were upset that Jesus had more followers.
2. A deep understanding of Jesus was necessary or the feelings of misgiving will fester and become worse.
SENT ON A MISSION
1. John knew what it meant to be sent.
2. He could speak on this subject with deep feeling.
3. He himself had been sent by God to prepare the way of the Lord, the Messiah.
JESUS WAS SENT BY GOD TOO
1. Jesus was sent by God as well.
2. His ministry was to speak the words of God.
a. His ministry was different from that of John.
b. His ministry was to proclaim the very words of God.
c. He would speak as the Living Word (John 1:1).
A MARKED DIFFERENCE
1. All servants of God must be anointed by the Holy Spirit.
2. John also experienced what it meant to be filled with the Holy Spirit for life and ministry.
3. However there was an essential difference!
4. The Holy Spirit would be given to Jesus “without measure”.
THE SEVEN-FOLD SPIRIT OF GOD RESTING UPON JESUS THE CHRIST
Jesus would be given the Spirit of God in absolute fullness. This was prophesied of Him by the prophet Isaiah.
“The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,The Spirit of counsel and might,The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”
Isaiah 11:2
THE POWER OF GOD IN JESUS
1. Jesus would experience the fullness of the power of God in His life and ministry.
2. He would draw many to His side.
3. His success in ministry would be a natural and logical outcome of the power of God applied.
John’s disciples must understand and rejoice in the huge success of the Lord Jesus Christ!
