The Disciples of The Lord Jesus

Text: John 4:31-34

THE DISCIPLES OF THE LORD JESUS

They had left their all to follow Jesus as their Master. They had learned many deep and life-changing truths from Him. With each passing day, they had learned to love their Teacher dearly. They had gone to buy food for their beloved Rabbi to eat. The Disciples presented the food and said, “Rabbi, eat.” John 4:31

A BAFFLING ANSWER

Jesus appreciated the effort and the love of His Disciples. But instead of partaking of the food He said something that baffled the Disciples, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” John 4:32

THE ASTOUNDED DISCIPLES

They did not understand what Jesus was speaking about. They talked to each other and voiced their sense of wonder. “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” John 4:33

A SPECIAL TEACHING FOR THE DISCIPLES

Jesus knew that His Disciples could not understand what He had just said. He explained to them what He meant. “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” John 4:34

1. Food

a. There was physical food for the nourishment of the body.

b. There was also spiritual food that feeds the soul.

c. Both are important!

2. Doing ‘the will of Him who sent Me’

a. Jesus was referring to the work that God had sent Him to accomplish.

i. To reach Israel with the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

ii. To teach His Disciples lessons about how to be a fisher of men.

b. Jesus was engaged in a work of reaching out to the Samaritans too.

i. They needed to hear the Gospel of salvation too.

ii. They may receive salvation as Israel.

iii. His work had just begun with bringing a word of salvation to the Samaritan woman.

c. Consciousness of God sending Him.

i. Jesus had a marvelous sense of consciousness of being sent by God.

ii. Fulfilling the will of God was His special spiritual food.

3. “And to finish His work”

a. The Samaritan woman had been won to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

b. He was expecting the men of Samaria who were making their way to see Jesus.

c. He was preparing to minister to them soon. He must finish this work faithfully.

给门徒们的特别教训

耶稣知道他的门徒无法理解他刚说的话。祂跟他们解释了它的意思。 “我的食物就是遵行差我来者的旨意，做成他的工。”《约翰福音 4: 34》

1. 食物

a. 有为身体提供营养的食物

b. 还有喂养灵的属灵食物

c. 两者都很重要！

2. “遵行差我来者的旨意”

a. 耶稣指的是上帝差祂去做的工

i. 与以色列传关于上帝国度的福音

ii. 教导祂的门徒如何得人如得鱼一样

b. 耶稣也参与了与撒玛利亚人传道的职事

i. 他们也需要听到关于救恩的福音

ii. 他们能像以色列一样得到拯救

iii. 给撒玛利亚的妇人带来救恩的福音是祂职事的开始

c. 上帝派遣祂的意识

i. 耶稣对被上帝派遣有奇妙的意识

ii. 应验上帝的旨意是祂特别属灵的食物

3. “做成他的工”

a. 撒玛利亚的妇女在主耶稣基督里找到了信心

b. 祂期待正在寻找耶稣的撒马利亚男士

c. 祂准备即将与他们传福音。祂必须忠实地完成这职事
