The Feeding of the Five Thousand

Text: John 6:15

THE FEEDING OF THE FIVE THOUSAND

It was wonderful of Jesus to have such compassion on the multitudes. This miracle was so special and outstanding that all the four gospel writers noted it (Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17).

A WRONG RESPONSE

John noted the wrong response from the multitude. The huge crowd had a very strong personal agenda.

“Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.” 

John 6:15

1. “Therefore when Jesus perceived”

a. The word “perceived” simply means “to know”.

b. He knew the multitudes well.

i. He knew their hearts.

ii. He knew their intents.

2. “That they were about to come and take Him by force”

a. The people could easily become a mob.

b. And a mob would think nothing of using “force”.

c. The word “force” means “to seize”.

3. “To make Him king”

a. The multitudes had a political agenda.

b. They were living under the rule of the Romans.

i. They were often bullied.

ii. They resented the taxes they had to pay the Romans.

iii. Rome ruled the Empire with an iron fist.

c. Jesus would be a better king.

i. He was good and righteous.

ii. He had power from God.

iii. He could easily feed them.

4. “He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone”

a. Jesus wisely withdrew Himself from the multitudes.

b. He went up the mountains once again! He knew the multitudes would not follow Him!

给五千人吃饱

耶稣对众人以怜悯为怀，真是美好。这个神迹非常特殊与突出，以致四位福音作者都有记载。 《马太福音 14：13-21》、《马可福音 6：30-44》、 《路加福音 9：10-17》。

错误的反应

约翰记载了众人错误的反应。这庞大的人群别有用心，有着很强烈的私人意图。

“耶稣既知道众人要来强逼他做王，就独自又退到山上去了。”

《约翰福音 6：15》

1. “耶稣既知道”

a. “知道” 这词简单来说就是 “看出”

b. 耶稣非常了解众人

i. 祂看出他们的心

ii. 祂看出他们的意图

2. “众人要来强逼他”

a. 众人很轻易地会变成暴民

b. 暴民不会把暴力行为当成一回事

c. “强逼” 这词指的是 “抓住” 的意思

3. “强逼他做王”

a. 众人有政治意图

b. 他们活在罗马帝国的统治下

i. 他们常被欺负

ii. 他们怨恨得向罗马人纳税

iii. 罗马帝国以铁腕来统治

c. 耶稣会是个更好的君王

i. 祂既良善又公义

ii. 祂拥有来自上帝的大能

iii. 祂能轻而易举地喂饱众人

4. “就独自又退到山上去了”

a. 耶稣有智慧地从众人中退了出来

b. 耶稣再次上山去了！祂知道众人不会跟着祂！
