Unperturbed by the Objections
Text: John 6: 43-45
UNPERTURBED BY THE OBJECTIONS
Was Jesus perturbed or upset by the complaining spirit of the Jews? He was not upset at all. This gave Him a further opportunity to reinforce what He had said a moment ago.
“Jesus therefore answered and said to them, ‘Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.’”
John 6:43-45
1. “Do not murmur among yourselves”
a) This was the approach taken by the Jews.
b) They did not seek clarification.
c) They complained and murmured among themselves.
d) In so doing, they became even more muddled up.
e) They were none the wiser for all their grumbling and complaining.
2. The special work of the Father
a) Once again Jesus mentioned this.
b) He had already taught about the involvement of God the Father (John 6:32, 37).
c) Two aspects were highlighted:
i) The Father will draw the true believer to Jesus in faith.
ii) He will teach the individual.
3. “Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father”
a) The individual hears the teachings of Jesus.
b) In his heart he knows that he has in fact experienced two special things:
i) He has heard the Father speaking to him.
ii) He has learned from the Father, the Divine Teacher.
c) This was a prophecy proclaimed by two prophets (Isaiah 54:13; Jeremiah 31:34).
4. The ones taught by God the Father
Jesus once again spoke with great certainty. Those who were taught by the Father would certainly come to Jesus in faith!
