The Heart of Jesus
Text: John 7: 1-2
THE HEART OF JESUS
Jesus had come from heaven to help people learn about God. His heart was pure and His purpose was sound and good. He preached and taught and healed those who were ill. Yet, the human heart can be so stubborn and hardened it refused to listen readily.
WHEN DANGER LURKS
Jesus taught in more ways than one. To the multitudes, Jesus preached about the glorious kingdom of God. But to the disciples, Jesus taught them much deeper lessons of faith, ministry and life.
“After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand.”
John 7:1-2
1. Jesus’ ministry was conducted in two main regions:
a. Galilee
b. Judea
2. Factors to consider before deciding on where to minister
a. The question of hostility
i. If people are hostile, they are not likely to listen.
ii. And where hostility is not resolved, danger lurks.
b. Danger
i. To the life of Jesus personally.
ii. To the lives of His disciples.
3. A difficult decision
a. The celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles was at hand.
b. Those who were considered faithful would make every effort to be in Jerusalem to celebrate this Feast that commemorated the liberation of Israel from the tyranny and slavery of Egypt.
c. If Jesus did not go, He could be accused of not being a faithful Jew.
d. If He did decide to go, He would be endangering Himself and His disciples.
SEEKING THE WISDOM AND WILL OF GOD
The Gospels do not record every single time that Jesus would withdraw into the wilderness, or go up to a mountain to spend time in meditation and prayer. But it is more than reasonable to assume that Jesus did indeed seek the counsel of His Heavenly Father
1. Prayer was such a permanent and precious practice of Jesus in His daily life.
2. God would always be on hand to instruct and to inspire every day in life and ministry.
