The Miracles Christ Performed
Text: John 9: 6-7
THE MIRACLES CHRIST PERFORMED
Jesus was most conscious of what He was doing! He would perform His miracles in different ways!
1. Turning water to wine (John 2)
Jesus gave instructions to the servants of the bridegroom. The water turned into wine! He performed this miracle quietly. There was no fanfare of any kind.
2. Healing of a nobleman’s son (John 4)
Jesus healed the son of the noble man from a distance. He did not go to the man’s house. He just spoke a word and the man had to exercise his faith in Jesus.
3. Healing of a lame man at Bethesda (John 5)
Jesus simply told the man to take up his bed and walk. The man was instantly healed.
4. The feeding of the five thousand (John 6)
Jesus blessed the five loaves and two fish. The food was multiplied miraculously and He fed more than five thousand people.
5. The healing of the blind man (John 9)
Jesus did this quite differently from the other miracles He performed.
“When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which is translated, “Sent”). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.”
John 9:6-7
UNDERSTANDING THE ACTIONS OF JESUS
This miracle is best understood in the light of what Jesus had just said, “I am the light of the world.”
1. Light is necessary for sight
a) Light is necessary even for the sighted.
b) Without light, nothing can be seen.
c) Jesus was that Light and only through Him can we see and appreciate things.
2. The actions of Jesus
a) There was no magical power in the clay and saliva of Jesus.
b) The elaborate things Jesus did would be significant to the blind man.
c) The actions conveyed deep meaning.
3. The Pool called “Sent” (Siloam)
a) Jesus was sent by His Father.
b) The blind man was sent by Jesus and he obeyed.
Jesus had been sent by the Father to perform this miracle too! Its significance would soon be revealed.
