The Christ
Text: John 10: 25
THE CHRIST
There were many ancient prophecies that declared that God would send a special Person who would have a special anointing. The word “Christ” simply means “The Anointed One”. In Hebrew He would be called “The Messiah”.
1. He would be born miraculously. His mother would be a virgin (Isaiah 7:14).
2. He would be that great Light from the LORD that would shine and dispel darkness (Isaiah 9:1-2).
3. He would have the seven-fold Spirit resting upon Him (Isaiah 11:2).
4. He would be the perfect Servant of God (Isaiah 42:1-9).
a. He would be a covenant to the people (Isaiah 42:6c).
b. He would also bring light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 42:6d).
c. He would open blind eyes (Isaiah 42:7a).
JESUS WAS THE CHRIST
The four Gospel writers took great care to demonstrate and prove that Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies concerning the Messiah .
“Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.’”
John 10:25
1. “Jesus answered them”
a. He was not intimidated by the Jews.
b. He answered them boldly.
2. “I told you, and you do not believe”
a. “I told you”
i. Jesus identified Himself in many special ways.
They were better than making a plain statement that He was the Christ.
ii. He declared that He was the Living Bread that came from Heaven (John 6:41).
iii. He also declared that He was the Light of the world (John 8:12).
b. “And you do not believe”
i. The problem of having doubts lay in the problem of unbelief.
ii. And not because Jesus did not tell them plainly.
3. “The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me”
a. Jesus presented a four-fold witness (John 5).
b. All His mighty works were done in His Father’s name. These proved He was the Christ!
