Division Among the Jews
Text: John 10: 19-21
DIVISION AMONG THE JEWS
No matter what Jesus said and no matter how He taught, the Jews would misunderstand Him.
“Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. And many of them said, ‘He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?’ Others said, ‘These are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?’”
John 10:19-21
1. “Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings”
a. The sayings here is a reference to Jesus teaching about the good Shepherd (John 10).
b. It should have been very clear to those who are the sheep of the Lord Jesus Christ.
c. Those who failed to understand Him obviously were not His sheep for they did not recognise the voice of their Shepherd
2. “Many of them said”
a. “He has a demon”
b. “And is mad.”
c. “Why do you listen to Him?”
d. These were the opinions of these Jews who were opposed to Jesus.
e. We may ask them: “On what grounds do you come to these conclusions?”
f. They would not be able to come up with any answer!
3. “Others said, ‘These are not the words of one who has a demon’”
a. This is an obvious counter argument.
b. The demons that they have known:
i. They hurt people.
ii. They are destructive.
iii. They are cruel and wicked.
c. No one but the true and good Shepherd could teach such wonderful truths.
4. “Can a demon open the eyes of the blind”
a. The fact that Jesus had healed the man who was born blind could not be ignored.
b. Jesus could not be a demon because He had shown such compassion and power to help people.
