A Sobering Truth

Text: John 10: 26-28

A SOBERING TRUTH

The doubts that the Jews had could not be blamed on Jesus! The reason why they did not believe was plainly stated.

“But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

John 10:26-28

1. “But you do not believe”

a. This was obvious.
b. The Jews had rejected Jesus.
c. They kept opposing Him in every way possible.

2. “Because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you”

a. This was a solemn truth.
b. These Jews were not the sheep of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A WONDERFUL TRUTH

Jesus spoke to all who listened to Him in Solomon’s Porch. These would include His disciples and all who would come to believe in Him as the Christ.

1. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me”

a. There was a special relationship between the Shepherd and His sheep.
b. Features highlighted:
i. The true sheep will hear and recognize the voice of their Shepherd.
ii. Jesus knows His sheep intimately.
iii. They would always follow Him as their faithful and beloved Shepherd.

2. Three special promises were given to His beloved sheep

a. “And I give them eternal life”
What a glorious promise this is!
b. “And they shall never perish”
This is a great word of assurance.
c. “Neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand”

Jesus the Christ has power supreme. This power was evidenced in the way He cast out demons and the way He performed His miracles. No one would be able to snatch His sheep from His hand.

a. 牧人和祂的羊有着特别的关系
b. 关系的特点包括:
i. 凡真正属于基督的羊，就会听到并认识他们牧者的声音
ii. 耶稣亲密地了解祂的羊
iii. 羊群会一直跟随着耶稣，他们富信实及亲爱的牧者

2. 祂给予了亲爱的羊群三个特别应许

a. “我又赐给他们永生”
这是多么富荣耀的应许！
b. “他们永不灭亡”
这话语富有极大的确据
c. “谁也不能从我手里把他们夺去”

耶稣基督有至高的大能。这大能可在祂赶鬼及行神迹时显而易见。谁也不能从祂手中把祂的羊夺去。
