"My God shall supply all your need"

Text: Philippians 4:19

APOSTOLIC BENEDICTION

Paul concluded his thoughts about “giving and receiving” with a special apostolic benediction.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Philippians 4:19-20

1. “And my God”

a) Paul used this phrase to describe a deep sense of closeness with God.
b) What he was about to say he felt sure that God would approve.
c) “My God” is not to be read as an exclusive term.

2. “Shall supply all your need”

a) Paul was aware that the Philippians gave out of a heart of love.
b) Not everyone was wealthy and could give out of their abundance.
c) Some gave even though they had their own “needs”.
d) Paul was confident that God would supply and fill their needs (Greek “pleroo” – “to fill”).
e) Paul’s confidence was in his deep knowledge of God.
f) In his experience he had seen how the Lord provided again and again.

3. Personal significance

a) There was significance to be identified with Paul.
b) They formed a team of people deeply committed to serving the Lord.
c) As a team they sent greetings to the Philippians who supported them.

4. “According to His riches in glory”

a) God’s basis of giving would be “according to His riches in glory”.
b) Paul was confident that God would be able to meet all their needs and more.
c) There are no limits to God’s riches in glory.
d) He meets the needs of His faithful servants.
e) He will supply the needs of all who faithfully support His servants.

5. “By Christ Jesus”

a) The place of the Lord Jesus must be appreciated.
b) It is in Christ that this faith is possible at all.
c) It is in Christ that we may have such a glorious benediction.
d) It is the Lord Jesus Himself who will bring about the Lords blessings.
e) “By Christ Jesus” emphasises the role of Jesus.
