Day 212 – Psalm 108

“Who will bring me into the strong city?” Psalm 108:10a

DIVINE LEADERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED

Though David was the king of Israel and had a powerful army, he recognized the Divine leadership of God.

“Who will bring me into the strong city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
Is it not You, O God, who cast us off?
And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?”
Psalm 108:10-11

1. “Who will bring me into the strong city?”

a) David knew that many of the cities of his enemies were well-fortified.
b) They were indeed strong cities.
c) Though he was the king, he knew that God Himself must be the One who leads in battle.

2. “Who will lead me to Edom?”

a) Edom was a difficult enemy to defeat.
b) Edom lived in mountainous regions.
c) Israel would not be able to prevail against Edom without Divine leadership.

3. “Is it not You, O God who cast us off?”

a) David acknowledged that God must be the Divine Commander-in-Chief.
b) Yet, He seemed to have cast off Israel’s army.

4. “And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?”

a) David knew the importance of God’s involvement with Israel’s battles against powerful foes.
b) God must be there to lead in battle.
c) This was a great truth Moses taught the children of Israel (Exodus 15:14-15; Deuteronomy 1:30).
d) But what if God did not go out with the army of Israel?
e) David was staring at certain defeat if God was to withdraw His presence from Israel.

Thus, in this text, he was pleading with God to be with His people and to lead them into victory.
