“His work is honourable and glorious…” Psalm 111:3a

AN APPRECIATION OF THE WORKS OF GOD

The psalmist makes several observations about the works of God in the following text.

“His work is honourable and glorious,
And His righteousness endures forever.
He has made His wonderful works to be remembered;
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion.”
Psalm 111:3-4

1. Essential features associated with the works of God

a) Honourable
b) Glorious

2. The works of God reflect His attributes

a) His righteousness which endures forever.
b) His graciousness.
c) His compassion.

3. What are some of God’s reasons behind His works?

a) To reveal the Person of God and His attributes.
b) To bring much encouragement and uplift to the heart.
c) To provide for His people.
d) To protect them from evil.
e) To deepen faith and trust in Him.
f) To teach wisdom.

4. A special reason highlighted

a) God wants His works to be remembered.
b) All too easily the great works of God are forgotten!

This inglorious inclination must be dealt with great determination. Forgetting God’s works was Israel’s folly and it caused them to go astray in their hearts!
