Day 299 – Psalm 119:105-112

“I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments.” Psalm 119:106

COPING WITH AFFLICTIONS

The psalmist must have had a hard time with reference to afflictions in his life. Once again he mentioned how he coped with afflictions.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
I have sworn and confirmed
That I will keep Your righteous judgments.
I am afflicted very much;
Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word.
Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD,
And teach me Your judgments.”
Psalm 119:105-108

1. Context

The psalmist admitted that he was struggling with much affliction.

2. Coping with severe affliction

a) Seeking the word of God for needed light for his daily life.
b) Praying for revival from the Lord once again.
c) Praying that God would continue to teach him vital truths that would sustain him in life’s trials.

3. Confirmation of his determination to keep God’s word

a) This was confirmed with an oath. The psalmist formally took an oath and swore that he would always keep God’s judgments. This was a very solemn and formal expression of his confirmation.
b) The taking of an oath is not usual.
c) This is not expected or required by God.
d) The taking of an oath was a very personal decision on the part of the psalmist.
e) Perhaps he felt a little more strengthened when he made this oath to keep God’s word.

4. Coming to the Lord with freewill offerings of the mouth

a) This could be in the form of singing to the Lord.
b) It could also be found in the form of giving testimonies about the Lord’s goodness.
These things were done in public worship.
