Day 309 – Psalm 119:145-152

“I cry out with my whole heart…” Psalm 119:145a

TROUBLES IN LIFE

The psalmist openly and humbly confesses that he sometimes feels overwhelmed by the troubles of life. Though there may have been victories in the past, the fact remains that there were times when he feels unable to cope.

1. Trouble from wicked enemies is felt keenly (Psalm 119:150a).

2. They seem to draw ever nearer (Psalm 119:150a).

3. These enemies follow wickedness than the law of God (Psalm 119:150b).

4. The presence of enemies brought about restlessness; he is unable to sleep well (Psalm 119:148a).

THE WISEST THING TO DO

What is the wisest and best thing to do when we face wicked enemies who have no fear of God in their hearts? They are quite capable of great evil and mischief. The psalmist shares with us how he dealt with his fears.

1. He prayed with all his might

a) He cried out to the Lord with all his heart (Psalm 119:145a, 146a).
b) He cries out for deliverance {“salvation”} (Psalm 119:146b).
c) He cries out for help humbly (Psalm 119:147b).
d) He cries out to God to revive him (Psalm 119:149b).

2. A Commitment to the Lord

a) He will seek to keep God’s statutes faithfully (Psalm 119:145b, 146b).
b) He will meditate on the Lord’s word (Psalm 119:148b).

3. Exercising Faith

a) He will exercise faith that God is near at hand (Psalm 119:151a).
b) He affirms his faith in the Word of God (Psalm 119:152).
c) He will hold fast to the lovingkindness of God (Psalm 119:149a).
d) He will keep God’s word no matter how hard life may be (Psalm 119:145b, 146b).
