"I will call upon the LORD..."

Day 128 – Psalm 18

“I will call upon the LORD…” Psalm 18:3a

DO WE FIND IT HARD TO KEEP CLOSE TO GOD?

Many of us struggle with our walk with God. It seems so hard to “call upon the Lord” faithfully. How did David manage to have an obviously strong relationship with God?

HARSH CIRCUMSTANCES OF LIFE

Many complain about the harsh circumstances of their life. If anyone had reason to complain about his circumstances of life, David would be that perfect candidate.

Throughout his life, he had enemies who plotted to kill him! How would David choose? His choice was certain and clear.

“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
so shall I be saved from my enemies.”
Psalm 18:3

1. “I will call upon the LORD”

a) This represented David’s choice.
b) It also expressed his trust in the Lord.
c) It also expressed his determination to call upon the Lord always.

2. “Who is worthy to be praised”

a) The “worth” of the Lord was foremost in mind.
b) The word “LORD” was not an empty title.
c) It represented so much (Psalm 18:1-2).
d) God had proven His “worth” many times over:-
i) God was his source of strength.
ii) God was his salvation.
iii) God was his stronghold.

3. “So shall I be saved from my enemies”

a) This was a well-founded confidence that David had.
b) The hope of being delivered from his enemies drew David to “call upon the LORD”.
