Day 155 – Psalm 20

“Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed” Psalm 20:6a

VITAL CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD

The whole idea of seeking the Lord’s blessings before a battle must result in a boost of vital confidence. This is seen in the following text.

“Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
They have bowed down and fallen,
But we have risen and stand upright.
Save, LORD! May the King answer us when we call.”
Psalm 20:6-9

1. “Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed”

a) This speaks of great confidence in the Lord.
b) God is committed to His anointed (the king).
c) He will come to the rescue of His people with the sassing strength of His right hand.

2. “Remember the name of the Lord”

a) Rejection of trust in chariots and horses.
b) Remembering that the final victory is in the LORD alone.

3. Defeat and Victory

a) Defeat of the enemy is envisioned.
b) Victory for the Lord’s army is assured.

4. A different kind of war-cry

a) “Save, LORD” is the cry of the faithful.
b) Assurance is felt in the heart that God will answer calls for help.
c) However this assurance is not presumed uponâ?¦ hence the phrase “May the King answer us when we call.” (The LORD is addressed as “the King!”)
