Day 201 – Psalm 26

“Redeem me and be merciful to me…” Psalm 26:11b

APPROPRIATE HUMILITY

Even if David was able to speak of “innocence” from wicked deeds, he knew that appropriate humility must be maintained at all times.

“But as for me, I will walk in my integrity;
Redeem me and be merciful to me.
My foot stands in an even place;
In the congregations I will bless the LORD.”
Psalm 26:11-12

1. “I will walk in my integrity”

a) This is a good determination on David’s part.
b) However walking in integrity does not mean sinlessness!

2. “Redeem me and be merciful to me”

a) There was still the need for “redemption”.
i) This is always illustrated every time an offering is placed on the altar of the burnt offering.
ii) Redemption is the main thought.
iii) Another aspect of redemption is actual “deliverance”.
iv) God’s acceptance of David’s worship and testimony would be His Divine vindication.
b) Standing in the need of God’s mercy
i) God’s mercy is the appropriate thing to plead in prayer.
ii) Ultimately all must fall back on God’s mercy (Exodus 34:6).

3. “My foot stands in an even place”

a) David was confident that his position before God was on “an even place” because of his innocence.
b) When God vindicated him, he would all the more be able to bless the Lord among His people.
