Day 225 – Psalm 30

“In my prosperity…” Psalm 30:6a

LESSONS OF LIFE

Lessons of life are often best learned in the context of life itself (in contrast to learning from books). The lesson David learned is one that is relevant to us today. It concerns the problem of trusting in our prosperity!

“Now in my prosperity I said,
‘I shall never be moved.
LORD, by Your favour
You have made my mountain stand strong.’
You hid Your face and I was troubled.”
Psalm 30:6-7

1. “In my prosperity”

a) There is nothing wrong with “prosperity” per se.
b) Prosperity is something that the Lord Himself bestows.

2. “I said, ‘I shall never be moved'”

a) This is where the problem lies.
b) There is a subtle hint of “self-confidence”.
c) Who can really say “I shall never be moved?”

3. “LORD, by Your favour”

a) Even if one employs the name of God;
b) Even if one acknowledges the favour of God in granting prosperity;
c) The danger of “self-confidence” is too dangerous for comfort.

4. “You have made my mountain stand strong”

a) Prosperity does not necessarily make one all that strong.
b) Strength is one thing that we cannot take for granted.

5. “You hid Your face, and I was troubled”

God hid His face and immediately David learned a deep lesson! The personal Presence of God was to be valued above “prosperity” and “strength”!
