Day 220 – Psalm 30

“You have lifted me up…” Psalm 30:1b

THE REASON FOR THIS SENSE OF EXUBERANCE OF SPIRIT

Were there special reasons that caused David to possess this special desire to “extol the Lord”? A series of reasons may be offered. The first reason is found in the following text.

“I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my foes rejoice over me.”
Psalm 30:1

1. You have not let my foes rejoice over me

a) Enemies were in sight.
b) David had many foes. Two groups may be highlighted:-
i) False brethren who lurked in his court.
ii) External enemies like the Philistines.
c) Foes rejoicing
i) This could happen if there is a bad defeat suffered by David.
ii) The enemies of David would rejoice greatly if they could kill him.
d) But God had protected David.
i) The Lord had not given victory to David’s foes.
ii) All their plots had failed miserably because of God’s protection.

2. “You have lifted me up”

a) David was not dethroned.
b) God had lifted him up from the many wicked traps laid by his foes.
c) God had delivered David time and again from perilous situations.

A GOOD REASON TO EXTOL THE LORD

David had every reason to extol the Lord! Not to extol the Lord would be tantamount to taking for granted the Lord’s deliverance from the hands of his enemies. What a challenge to train our hearts to learn how to extol the Lord!
