Day 228 – Psalm 30

“Mourning into dancing” Psalm 30:11a

A GREAT TURNAROUND

God had heard and accepted David’s supplication. There was a great turnaround. This is well expressed in the following text!

“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.”
Psalm 30:11

1. David’s attempts at prayer

How did David actually pray when he sought to repent from his error and to return to the Lord? The text above indicates that David did two things:-

a) Mourning
i) His heart taught him to mourn for the loss of God’s favour.
ii) His heart was sorrowful because though he had wealth and strength, God had hidden His face from him.
iii) His circumstances in life, where he had a near-death experience taught him to mourn before the Lord for his foolishness.
b) Sackcloth
i) David must have put on sackcloth as he made his supplications.
ii) This would also suggest that David must have fasted before the Lord.
iii) Sackcloth was the clothing of those who mourned for their dead.
iv) David showed deep and genuine humility before the Lord indeed.

2. “You have”

a) This phrase indicates God’s answer to his supplications.
b) God had forgiven him.
c) God had taken away the sorrow from his heart.
d) God had given him gladness of heart and he could once again dance before Him.
