Day 248 – Psalm 32

“When I kept silent…” Psalm 32:3a

WHEN WE NEGLECT TO DEAL WITH OUR SINS

What is the opposite of knowing that our sins have been forgiven? The psalmist David recalled a time when he did not deal with the sins in his life.

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”
Psalm 32:3-4

1. “When I kept silent”

We are not told just why David kept silent instead of turning to the Lord for forgiveness. Was it negligence? Was it complacency?

2. The result of not dealing with his sins

a) “My bones grew old”
i) A picture of weariness.
ii) A possible indication of being adversely affected (health).
b) “Groaning all the day long”
i) Complaining attitude
ii) Whining spirit
c) “Vitality was turned into the drought of summer”
i) Feelings of being enervated.
ii) Feeling of dryness in heart, mind and spirit.

3. The Lord’s hand

a) God was personally involved in David’s life.
b) Much was at stake because David was ruler of ancient Israel.
c) David felt the heavy hand of God upon him. (This was necessary to bring him back (restoration of a right relationship with the Lord).
