Day 281 – Psalm 35

“Vindicate me, O LORD my God…” Psalm 35:24a

A PLEA FOR DIVINE VINDICATION

David was well aware of the fact that nothing had escaped the omniscience of God. He pleaded for God to stand up for him and vindicate him.

“This You have seen, O LORD; Do not keep silence.
O LORD, do not be far from me.
Stir up Yourself, and awake to my vindication,
To my cause, my God and my Lord.
Vindicate me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness;
And let them not rejoice over me.”
Psalm 35:22-24

1. The omniscience of God

This is well-indicated in the phrase, “This you have seen, O LORD” (Psalm 35:22a)

2. The silence of God

a) This was more disturbing.
b) The silence of God was feared because it might indicate the Lord distancing Himself from David.

3. “Stir up Yourself and awake”

a) This was not meant to be a rude remark.
b) It was an idiomatic expression.
c) It was meant as a plea to God to act on the plea submitted to Him in prayer.

4. Plea for vindication

a) David is appealing to the Lord as Supreme Justice.
b) He is pleading for God to clear him of all the false charges made against him.

5. Pleading with God

a) As LORD Psalm 35:22a
b) As a very real and personal God Psalm 35:24a
c) As a righteous God Psalm 35:24a
