Day 310 – Psalm 38

“For I will declare my iniquity…” Psalm 38:18a

SIMILARITY IN FEATURES

There are some similarities between Psalm 38 and Psalm 32. One feature that is common in both is the focus on the need to confess sin to God.

“For I am ready to fall,
And my sorrow is continually before me.
For I will declare my iniquity;
I will be in anguish over my sin.”
Psalm 38:17-18

1. “I am ready to fall”

a) David felt that he had come to the end of his strength.
b) He would fall soon.
c) His sorrow was continually before him.

2. What was the problem?

a) Why had not the Lord responded to him yet?
b) David must have made a diligent search (Psalm 32:3-5).

3. The solution

a) I will declare my iniquity.
i) He would not hide his iniquities.
ii) He would openly declare them before the Lord.
b) I will be in anguish over my sins.
i) This was the “new feature”.
ii) There must be genuine confession.
iii) But there must also be “anguish over sin”.
iv) Anguish over sin must come from genuine repentance.

David had learned another deep lesson about confession of sins to God!
