Day 33 – Psalm 4

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness…” Psalm 4:5

THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

What are some of the things that David could have meditated upon? Psalm 4 offers a good example of the things that he could have meditated upon!

1. The wicked and their unrighteous ways.

a) David was fully aware of their wicked thoughts and intents (Psalm 4:2).
b) His anger was stirred up (for a while) (Psalm 4:4).

2. The LORD

a) How He has chosen the godly and set them apart for Himself (Psalm 4:3)
b) How He would hear the prayers of the godly (Psalm 4:3)

3. The godly and his deeds

a) The godly would always choose to pray (Psalm 4:1, 3)
b) The godly would choose to meditate (Psalm 4:4; 1:2)

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES OF THE GODLY

What else would the godly engage in? The following text opens up more ideas as to what the godly could do!

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the LORD.”
Psalm 4:5

1. “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness”

a) The sacrificial system of the Old Testament was rich in symbolism.
b) The sacrifices of themselves were not meritorious.
c) The worshipper must be fully aware of the need to be “righteous” or “godly” before the Lord for only then would the sacrifices be accepted (Isaiah 1:10-20).

2. “And put your trust in the LORD”

a) The struggle against evil is a perpetual one.
b) It is of utmost importance that the believer learns how to deepen his trust in God.
