Day 31 – Psalm 44

“My dishonor is continually before me…” Psalm 44:15

CLOSER TO HOME

Why had the sons of Korah written as they did? The following text reveals an important insight.

“My dishonor is continually before me,
And the shame of my face has covered me…”
Psalm 44:15

1. It was not just Israel’s problem

There was grief for Israel’s pitiful plight! But that was not all that the sons of Korah felt.

2. Personal problem

a) “My dishonor is continually before me”
i) This sense of dishonor was felt most keenly.
ii) Israel’s dishonor was also the dishonor of the sons of Korah.
iii) This sense of dishonor could not be easily shaken off.
iv) It was present every day!
b) “And the shame of my face has covered me”
i) Shame of face was felt keenly.
ii) Shame threatened to crush the spirit of the sons of Korah.

NATIONAL AND PERSONAL SHAME

It is possible that the sons of Korah could not fully identify with the national dishonor and shame that Israel faced.

1. The sons of Korah may have felt that they did not deserve the suffering that Israel was afflicted with.

2. Why should they suffer for the sins of others?

A BETTER APPROACH

The historical Daniel and Ezra adopted a different approach. These two great men fully identified with Israel’s sins and shame! They chose to accept their hard lot in life (Daniel 9; Ezra 9).
