Day 48 – Psalm 45

“All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia…” Psalm 45:8

BACK TO EARTHLY GLORY

The reference to the Messiah-King was very brief but most significant. The sons of Korah were writing about an earthly king when they penned these words.

“All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia,
Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.
Kings’ daughters are among Your honorable women;
At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.”
Psalm 45:8-9

1. “All your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia”

a) Normal clothes were unscented.
b) The royal robes of the King were carefully and beautifully scented
c) The mixture of scents ensured that no particular scent would dominate.
d) The end result would be beautiful royal robes fit for a great King.

2. Ivory palaces and Dignified Guests

a) The guests of the King are described.
b) Their presence added to the majesty of the occasion.
c) Among the dignitaries were:-
i) Princesses
ii) There was even a queen who was delicately dressed in pure gold from legendary Ophir.

3. “Made You glad”

Two valid sources of gladness are noted:-

a) There was a gladness that came from God (“anointing”).
b) There was a gladness that came from men.
