“Though its waters roar and be troubled…” Psalm 46:3

THE THREAT OF A TSUNAMI

Earthquakes are not the only things to be feared. Sometimes earthquakes can trigger off tsunamis.

“Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.”
Psalm 46:3

1. “Though its waters roar and be troubled”

a) This is not a simple description of a typical storm in the sea.
b) The following words describe something terrible:-
i) Waters roar
ii) Troubled
c) Devastation that comes with a tsunami:-
i) The tsunami that hit Thailand, India and Myanmar on 26 Dec 2004 cannot be easily forgotten.
ii) Hundreds of thousands of lives were swept away because of the tsunami.
iii) Millions were made homeless overnight.

2. “Though the mountains shake with its swelling”

a) Volcanic eruptions are fearsome things too.
b) Life and property are severely threatened.
c) Man cannot prevent such events from happening.

FAITH IN GOD

Faith in God will stand us in good stead when trying times come. Wisdom teaches us that we should not wait till disaster looms before turning to God in prayer. Our challenge must be one of cultivating our faith in God diligently. Then when disaster strikes, we will be able to cope for God would be our great and unfailing source of refuge, strength and help!
