“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10a

PRACTISING STILLNESS OF HEART AND MIND

How would we know that we have overcome fear? One of the best proofs is the stillness of our heart and mind, amidst many threatening circumstances of life.

“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.”
Psalm 46:10-11

1. God’s challenge

a) To “be still”
b) To know:-
i) For the first time
ii) To know afresh
iii) The significance of the Lord as our God!

2. God’s counsel

a) He will be exalted among the nations.
b) He will be exalted in all the earth.
c) Time will prove that His determined counsel will come to pass.

3. Appropriate response

a) Re-affirmation of faith in the Promise of God’s Presence with us amidst life’s trials.
b) Renewal of faith in the God of Jacob.
c) Reinforcement of a great sense of tranquility (stillness) of heart and mind because of reflection on the works of the Lord
