Day 117 – Psalm 51

“You will make me to know wisdom…” Psalm 51:6

WHERE DOES GOD FIT IN?

Confession of sin is not a “one way traffic”. It is not a matter of listing our sins. It might be useful to note that David did not mention Uriah or Bathsheba in Psalm 51! Is God involved even as we confess our sins to God? The following text gives us the answer.

“Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom”.
Psalm 51:6

1. Two parts of man

a) There is the “outward part”
This is a reference to the physical body.
b) The “inward parts”
i) The heart (Proverbs 4:21)
ii) The spirit (Proverbs 20:27)

2. God’s focus

a) The inward parts
b) The hidden part (this simply highlights the invisible part of man)

3. God’s concern

a) That we learn the importance of being truthful.
b) That we learn vital lessons of wisdom.

GLEANING WISDOM THROUGH REFLECTION

Unfortunately, wisdom cannot be learned from books alone. One learns wisdom through experiencing life. Some experiences are bad and sinful ones. They can mar the soul and character of the individual badly.

God desires man to learn from the sins and the mistakes made in life. From these painful episodes of life man can learn deep and life-changing lessons. If man does not learn from these lessons he will repeat the same mistakes and commit similar sins again and again.
