“All day they twist my words…” Psalm 56:5

KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE WICKED

It would be naive and foolish not to have any knowledge of the activities of the wicked. Ignorance would have caused David’s downfall. On the other hand knowledge of the plans of the wicked can also bring about great fear.

“All day they twist my words;
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather together; they hide, they mark my steps,
When they lie in wait for my life.
Shall they escape by iniquity?
In anger cast down the peoples, O God!”
Psalm 56:5-7

1. Gathering intelligence concerning the activities of the enemy

a) “They twist my words”
i) The enemy could smear David’s name.
ii) They could play on public sentiments through slander.
b) “All their thoughts are against me for evil”
i) The enemy harboured wicked thoughts in their heart.
ii) Evil was in their heart.
c) “They gather together”
i) Conspiracy
ii) They hid and lay in wait.
iii) They mark the steps of David.

2. Concern about whether the wicked would get away with doing evil

The wicked may seem to be able to escape human justice. But they will not be able to escape Divine Justice. God will indeed cast down all who are wicked!
