Psalm 63 offers significant glimpses as to how David sought for God.
“When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.” Psalm 63:6
1. The feeling of soul-thirst
This is where it all starts. The difficult circumstances in David’s life helped him to discover something very significant. He discovered that his soul was thirsty for God.
2. Seeking God
a) David sought God
i) In His sanctuary.
ii) In search for refuge.
b) Early in the morning
(Psalm 63:1a may be read with Psalm 5:3)
c) In the night season
i) On my bed
Even as David prepared to settle down for the night he found himself remembering God.
ii) I remember You
David thought much about God even while in bed.
d) Meditation
This suggests the following:-
i) Deep thought
ii) Careful thought
iii) Prayerful thought
e) In the night watches
i) This implies a sense of “watchfulness”.
ii) There is also implied a sense of “waiting on the Lord”.
