“By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us…” Psalm 65:5a

STANDING IN AWE OF GOD

Do you feel awe-struck when you come into the Presence of God in worship? Sadly, this sense of awe of God is lost after a while. Let us learn how we may regain this sense of awe from a study of Psalm 65.

“By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us,
O God of our salvation,
You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth,
And of the far-off seas.”
Psalm 65:5

1. “O God of our salvation”

a) This is an appropriate title of God.
b) He is indeed our Divine Saviour.
c) The word “salvation” is a reference to “Divine deliverance”.

2. “You will answer us”

a) Many are the prayers for help that ascend to God.
b) God indeed hears and answers prayers.

3. “By awesome deeds”

a) Each answer to prayer may indeed be seen as “awesome”.
b) The awesome power of God must not be denied.
c) It takes eyes of faith and love to recognise the awesome deeds of God.

4. “You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of the far-off seas”

a) David did not restrict the worship of God only to Israel.
i) Surely there must be many others who know and worship God.
ii) Surely these worshippers who are in faraway places share his thoughts about the majesty of God.
b) God indeed inspires confidence in all worshippers.
c) He is a God who deserves to have praise awaiting Him!

May this great God receive grateful worship from His people always.
