“You have ascended on high…” Psalm 68:18a

SCENE AT THE END OF A BATTLE

The war imagery is extended in the following text. The scenario described is that of a victorious king receiving homage from his defeated enemies.

“You have ascended on high,
You have led captivity captive;
You have received gifts among men,
Even from the rebellious,
That the LORD God might dwell there.”
Psalm 68:18

ii) Now they are captives themselves.

2. Paying of homage

b) The rebellious enemies would have to present gifts to the victorious king.

3. “That the LORD God might dwell there”

a) The above scenario had to be enacted.
i) To establish the victory of the conquering king.
ii) To establish that the enemies had been soundly defeated and they must subject themselves to the victorious king.

The dwelling of the victorious Almighty King was meant to create a great sense of joy and strength in the hearts of all who followed the Lord.
