Psalms
Psalm 68:29a "Your temple at Jerusalem..."
Day 299 – Psalm 68
“Your temple at Jerusalem…” Psalm 68:29a
A MESSIANIC ELEMENT
Psalm 68 was not only contemplative-historical, it also had Messianic elements. Two elements may be highlighted:-
1. Victory over enemies
a) This was David’s description of the Lord receiving gifts after His victory (Psalm 68:18).
b) This imagery was applied by the apostle Paul to describe the victory of the Lord Jesus over sin, death and Satan (Ephesians 4:8).
2. Worship at the Temple in Jerusalem
a) The following text will be fully fulfilled by the Messiah.
b) This will take place only in the Millennial Kingdom.
A BEAUTIFUL MESSIANIC HOPE REVEALED
The following text was prophetically revealed to David.
“Because of Your temple at Jerusalem,
Kings will bring presents to You.
Rebuke the beasts of the reeds,
The herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Till everyone submits himself with pieces of silver.
Scatter the peoples who delight in war.
Envoys will come out of Egypt;
Ethiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.”
Psalm 68:29-31
1. None of these things were fulfilled in the days of David.
2. These prophetic statements would be fulfilled one day:-
a) A temple will be re-established in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40-48).
b) Many foreigners will come to offer worship to God (Isaiah 2:2-4).
c) All will submit to the Lordship of the Messiah.
Let us look forward to the day when Jesus will return to earth. Meanwhile let us utter these words with great fervor- “Your kingdom come!”
