Psalm 73:5a "They are not in trouble as other men..."
Day 7 – Psalm 73
“They are not in trouble as other men…” Psalm 73:5a
IN THE GRIP OF THE SPIRIT OF ENVY
Asaph’s candid sharing about how he felt is very revealing about the power of envy. The more he thought about the wicked-rich, the more troubled he became. The following observation made him even more upset.
“They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are thay plagued like other men.”
Psalm 73:5
1. Life and its fair share of troubles
a) Trouble in life is expected.
b) Troubles in life are experienced by all.
2. Plagues in life
a) This would be a reference to very trying problems.
b) These may take several forms:-
i) Distress
ii) Disaster
iii) Devastation
c) Not all would experience these “plagues”.
3. Seemingly
a) The wicked-rich do not seem to be in trouble… “as other men”.
b) They do not seem to be plagued… “like other men”.
A CAREFUL ANALYSIS
It is fair to say Asaph’s observations were somewhat coloured by the spirit of envy. Do the wicked-rich actually go through life without any trouble? This is unlikely to be totally true! Two observations may be made about coping with life.
