“He is awesome…” Psalm 76:12b

GOD IN THE SIGHT OF ISRAEL

Asaph was correct to write these words about the Lord in Israel.

“In Judah God is known;
His name is great in Israel.”
Psalm 76:1

GOD IN THE SIGHT OF THE KINGS OF THE EARTH

But what about the kings of the earth? How do they regard God?

“He shall cut off the spirit of princes;
He is awesome to the kings of the earth.”
Psalm 76:12

1. “He shall cut off the spirit of princes”

a) God in His sovereignty destroyed the firstborn of the Egyptians.
b) Even Pharaoh’s heir to the throne, his firstborn, was “cut off”.
c) Pharaoh had to acknowledge the greatness of the Lord God of the children of Israel (Exodus 12:29-36).

2. “He is awesome to the kings of the earth”

a) King Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony concerning God.

“Truly your God is the God of gods,
The Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets…”
Daniel 2:47

b) He also gave another word of testimony in his experience with God.

“How great are His signs,
And how mighty His wonders!
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And His dominion is from generation to generation.”
Daniel 4:3

c) King Darius’ testimony concerning God.

“I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom
men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel.
For He is the living God, And steadfast forever;
His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed,
And His dominion shall endure to the end.”
Daniel 6:26

God was found to be awesome by these mighty rulers of the earth!
